Tatkal Booking Rules of IRCTC

In India, train travel is one of the most preferred modes of transportation for people. It is affordable, convenient, and accessible to everyone. However, booking a train ticket can often be a challenging task for many. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced the Tatkal booking system to allow passengers to book tickets at a short notice. The Tatkal booking system has its own set of rules and regulations which the customers must follow while booking the tickets.

The Tatkal booking system allows customers to book their train tickets just one day before the scheduled departure. This booking facility provides an opportunity to people who need to travel on an urgent basis, but could not book a ticket in advance. However, there are certain rules and regulations that need to be followed while booking a Tatkal ticket.

The Tatkal booking facility opens at 10:00 AM every day for AC classes and at 11:00 AM for non-AC classes. Customers can book their tickets only on the IRCTC website or through authorized ticketing agents. The Tatkal booking facility gives the customers an option to book tickets in both sleeper and AC classes.

During the Tatkal booking process, the customer has to give a few details like the name of the passenger, address, age, etc. In case of AC classes, the system provides the option to choose a side berth or a lower berth. A nominal fee is charged for every Tatkal booking as compared to the regular booking.

However, there are specific rules that the customers must adhere to while booking a Tatkal ticket. The customer cannot claim a refund for a confirmed Tatkal ticket. Only in case of any train delay or cancellation, the customer can receive a refund. The Tatkal tickets cannot be transferred to anyone else, and the passenger cannot change the boarding station. The customer cannot book multiple Tatkal tickets (more than two tickets) with the same name and address. The customer also cannot book a Tatkal ticket on behalf of someone else.

The Tatkal booking system has its own advantages and disadvantages. It provides an opportunity for customers to book tickets at a short notice and avoid any inconvenience. It is also beneficial for emergency situations where one may need to travel urgently. However, the system comes with certain constraints such as a limited number of seats available for Tatkal bookings, a higher fee charged for each booking, and the inability to request a refund of a confirmed ticket.

In conclusion, the Tatkal booking system offered by IRCTC is an essential tool for customers who need to book train tickets on short notice. It is necessary to follow the rules and regulations set by IRCTC and refrain from any fraudulent activities. By following the guidelines, customers can make use of the Tatkal booking system and ensure a hassle-free journey.
